("Grow", "the app") is a plant-care app made by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] ("we", "us"). This policy explains what information the app collects, why, who it is shared with, and how you can delete it.

The short version

We collect what the app needs to work: your email to sign in, the plants and notes you add, and photos you choose to upload.

Photos you send to Identify or Diagnose are analyzed by an AI service, Anthropic's Claude.

We don't show ads, we don't use analytics or tracking tools, and we never sell your information.

You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app at any time.

Information we collect

Account information. Your email address and password, used to create your account and sign you in. Passwords are stored in encrypted (hashed) form by our database provider, and we never see them.

Your plant collection. The plants, pots, care logs, journal entries, notes, tasks, wishlist, and graveyard entries you create. These are saved to your account so they're backed up and stay in sync across your devices.

Progress photos. Photos you choose to add to a plant's journal are uploaded and stored with your account.

Photos for Identify and Diagnose. When you use these features, the photos you pick are sent to our server and passed to an AI service for analysis (see "Who we share information with"). We don't store these photos ourselves. Only the result is saved, and only if you choose to save it to a plant.

AI feature usage. We keep a count of how many AI requests each account makes, so we can apply the monthly limit. This record includes the type of request and when it was made, not your photos.

Feedback. If you send feedback from the About screen, we store your message along with your account ID so we can follow up.

Approximate location. If you allow location access, the app uses your approximate location (accurate to about a kilometer) to show local weather and watering tips. It's sent directly from your phone to the weather service and is not stored on our servers.

Camera and photo library. The app asks for access only when you take or choose a photo. We only receive the specific photos you select.

Reminders. Care reminders are scheduled on your device. Nothing about them is sent to us.

How we use your information

To run the app: signing you in, saving and syncing your plants, and showing your journal and photos.

To provide plant identification, diagnosis, and care lookups.

To apply fair-use limits on AI features.

To read and respond to feedback you send us.

We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't build profiles of you.

Who we share information with

We share information only with the services that make the app work, and only what each one needs:

Supabase hosts our database, sign-in system, and photo storage, in the United States. It stores your account, plant collection, progress photos, AI usage counts, and feedback. Supabase privacy policy

Anthropic provides the Claude AI that identifies plants, diagnoses problems, and looks up care information. It receives the photos you submit for Identify or Diagnose, and plant names and types for care lookups. It doesn't receive your email or name. Anthropic's commercial terms state that it doesn't use this data to train its models. Anthropic privacy policy

Open-Meteo provides weather forecasts. It receives your approximate location when the weather banner loads. Open-Meteo terms and privacy

Wikipedia (Wikimedia Foundation) provides reference photos of plant species. The app sends plant names to Wikipedia to find a matching photo. Wikimedia privacy policy

Apple delivers the app and, if you buy a subscription in the future, handles payment. We never receive your payment details.

We may also disclose information if required by law. We don't sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

Progress photo links

Progress photos are stored at long, randomly generated web addresses so the app can display them quickly. These addresses aren't listed or published anywhere, but anyone who has the exact address of a photo could view it. Please don't upload photos you'd consider sensitive.

How long we keep information

We keep your information for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your plant collection, progress photos, AI usage records, and feedback are deleted. Copies may remain in our providers' routine backups for a short time before being overwritten.

When you look up care information for a plant name, we may keep the answer in a shared cache so the next person who looks up the same plant gets a faster result. That cache contains only the plant name and the care information, nothing that identifies you.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in the app: open the menu (☰) and choose Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and everything saved with it. It can't be undone.

If you can't access the app, email us at the address below from the email on your account and we'll delete it for you.

Your choices and rights

See and edit your data: everything you've saved is visible and editable in the app.

Location: you can turn location access off at any time in your iPhone's Settings. The app still works, just without the weather banner.

Photos and camera: you can change access in your iPhone's Settings.

Copy of your data or other requests: email us and we'll respond within 30 days.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, such as the right to access, correct, or delete your information, or to object to how it's used. Contact us to exercise them.

Children

Grow isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

Security

Information is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to your data is restricted to your own account, and our AI provider's keys are kept on our server, never in the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

If we make meaningful changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, let you know in the app.

Contact

Questions about this policy or your data:
[COMPANY LEGAL NAME]
kim@susurrus.design
